Flying the coop #2

As I predicted, three new chickens have turned up and they’ve done more than ruffle a few feathers since they arrived, I can tell you!

Let loose in the coop, trouble started before you could say ‘poached eggs’ with the little ginger one taking flight into the nearest tree. (I mentioned before that chickens CAN fly!). At each attempt to retrieve her, she flew higher up into the branches until it became impossible to reach her and, as dusk fell, she was abandoned to her fate.

Next morning, however, there she was on the wrong side of the fence, trying to find a way back in to re-join her sisters – and I came into my own as a gun-dog.

I froze. Then, keeping low to the ground, crept up on her and managed to capture her in my soft jaws and deliver her to the humans with not so much as a feather damaged!

Needless to say, she’s had her wings clipped to prevent any further flights of fancy and has been named ‘Ginger;’ after the trouble-making leader of the escaping hens in ‘Chicken Run’.

Meanwhile I am cock o’hoop at being considered top of the pecking order by both the hens and the humans on the farm right now!
